This needn't have much relationship with the specific numbers of the opposing army has, but one benefit might be reduced enemy morale during the next battle with your parent force. This mod is in no way a duplication of any other. For instance, the player might be tasked with making a lightning raid against an enemy camp at night, with a bounty paid for the number of defeated enemy officers. Since the Freelancer mod is mostly used when players are starting up their character, smaller scale combat scenario features could be a great, context-sensitive way to provide more engagement while scaling the experience to the requirements of the character. This general idea could be the seed for some leadership-based quests.Īlternatively, an expanded Freelancer mod might include more things to do on a smaller scale. For instance, professional military forces of all kinds did and do have their own form of law enforcement, designed to combat breaches of the law against members of said military force (and thereby preventing them from taking measures into their own hands) and those within it. I'd like to see a diversified form of the Freelancer mod that changes the player's responsibilities as one gains rank, up to providing additional quests and the like (even if they're ones very local to the force you're within). In a game essentially about warring factions where one does essentially as they please, there's small reason not to have this kind of gameplay element, barring limitations in development time and whatnot (which is what I suspect is at play). Welp at least until you get impaled by 3 javelins to your belly.The Freelancer mod was a good start in terms of providing a feature that was glaringly absent from the core game. The Freelancer mod for Mount and Blade Warband allowed players to step away from being a major player in the games world. What other mod let you play as Pict and go half naked into combat, covered in war paints, with big as round shield and spear in your hand and feel a jolly breeze between your thights? It even gives you some small buffs for doing so and doesn't render you useless since without proper armor you may swing your sword for days and laugh at smelly norsemans and their cumbersome dirty chainmals. I had to go in, arm by arm with my man and i gotta tell you i never was so afraid of my life in warband before.Ģ. I could no longer ride around on my chink horse, baraging my chasers with countless arrows. It opened up a new way of tactic and put more emphasis on going in close and personal on your own two foots and using throwing weapons like javelins more. Archery and cavalary were nerfed(the second one in lesser extent) to the ground in comparision to warband where you would just stand on the chill and then press charge and watch everyone die. Besides great atmosphere and a few neat ideas to core gameplay, like treasure hunting or visiting some historic places and introducing spies i think it really stood out for two reasons:ġ.
